Faringdon Station

Farringdon Train Shed Roof

London

Market Sector: Rail

Client: Network Rail

Engineer: Atkins

Main Contractor: Costain/Laing O’Rourke

The redevelopment of Farringdon station was part of the ThamesLink programme and Bourne were contracted to (re)design, fabricate and erect the new north train shed roof.

The package included the supply and installation of cladding and glazing to modular frames spanning across various lines to produce the new roof. The modular design was chosen so that working at height was reduced and the roof could be installed in weekend closures to avoid disruption to the rail services.

The structural steel package delivered to Farringdon earned the Bourne Group the 2012 Construction News Steel Specialist Award. This project was also shortlisted at the 2012 Structural Steel Design Awards.
